Police arrest suspect in shooting death in Anderson

Nidriques Cunningham was arrested for murder following the shooting death of Demone Devaux.


Devaux, shot in the leg on August 10, died a week later on the 17.

Cunningham was arrested in connection with the shooting death of 36-year-old Demone Devaux, according to an Anderson Police Department report.

Cunningham has been charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime and murder.

He faces a potential sentence of life without parole or the death penalty. No bond has been set for his release at this time.

The incident occurred on North Main Street on August 10.

Devaux was treated on the scene and transported to AnMed, where he received medical attention.


Despite these efforts, he succumbed to his injuries at 4:21 pm on August 17.

Cunningham was taken into custody following an investigation that linked him to the crime scene.


According to a press release, shell casings were collected by forensics from the roadway by Anderson police officers.

As the investigation progressed, a search warrant was executed on August 11 at the Horizon Inn, where additional evidence related to the shooting was recovered.

Cunningham was located, questioned, and ultimately confessed to detectives regarding the shooting, according to a police report.
