Fountain Inn approves downtown hotel

On July 10 Council approved an agreement with Fountain Inn Hotel Partners LLC regarding Project Irish, the development of a 109-room Springhill by Marriott hotel at 300 Jones St.
Under the agreement, the city has committed up to $1.1 million in economic development assistance for infrastructure improvements and incentives, including sidewalk enhancements, stormwater management and limited tax rebates.
Once completed, the $20 million project is expected to generate 75 temporary construction jobs and create 10 permanent hospitality jobs. Construction is scheduled to begin in fall 2025 and be completed by December 2026.
Other item: Main Street Streetscape update
During his report to the Council, City Administrator Shawn Bell said the Main Street Streetscape’s water and sewer line work is complete. The project was scheduled to be completed in November.
