Coastal Carolina baseball lost for the first time in two months, and the Chanticleers’ College World Series hopes rest on the team not losing again.
No. 6 seed LSU defeated Coastal 1-0 on June 21 at Charles Schwab Field Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska, to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three NCAA championship series.
The No. 13 seed Chanticleers (56-12) lost for the first time since April 22, ending their winning streak at 26 games. They were shut out for only the third time this season.

LSU (52-15) can clinch the 2025 championship with a win in Game 2 on June 22 (2:30 p.m. ET, ABC). Coastal must win twice to earn the program’s second national title, its first since 2016.
The Tigers scored in the first when Derek Curiel led off with a walk, advanced to second on a groundout and scored on Steven Milam’s single. On the groundout, Coastal shortstop Ty Dooley appeared to have a chance to get Curiel at second but chose to throw out the batter.
LSU left-hander Kade Anderson (12-1) walked five and hit Coastal star Caden Bodine twice with pitches but allowed only three hits in pitching a complete game. Coastal was 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position against him and struck out to end each of the first four innings. Anderson finished with 10 strikeouts.
Chanticleers pitcher Cameron Flukey (7-2) was nearly as good, allowing only four hits and two walks while striking out nine in six innings.
