Upstate zoo has new giraffe, ‘male calf is alert and standing.'
The Greenville Zoo has a new male giraffe calf.
"Baby is alert and standing," according to a post by the zoo.
A medical exam on June 9 determined height, weight, and sex.
The Greenville Zoo's new giraffe calf underwent its first check-up with the veterinarian, according to a new social media post on June 9.

The young calf is 6 feet 1 inch and weighs 132 pounds.
"He's still in the barn with Mom today, but we'll let you know when he's ready to step outside and say hello," according to the post.

This was Autumn’s seventh delivery. The others were sent to various other zoos in the country.
The zoo's giraffes are part of the Species Survival Plan, which is a "cooperative effort among zoos to ensure the long-term survival of genetically diverse and healthy populations of threatened and endangered animals, including the Masai giraffe," according to the social post.
How to visit the Greenville Zoo
Spring/summer hours will be in effect through November 5. Zoo hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Last admission is at 4 p.m.
Tickets range from $13 to $9.

Two free parking lots are located directly across from the zoo entrance. Additional parking is provided for special events.
