Dr. Trowbridge recommends drinking plenty of water and no-sugar sports drinks. Skip alcohol and sugary beverages. They deplete your body of fluids, possibly leading to dehydration.
Summer travelers are susceptible to heat exhaustion and dehydration because tourists forget about Greenville’s intense heat and humidity, says Dr. Matthew Delfino at AFC Bon Secours Urgent Care.
Also, check with your doctor or pharmacy about your medicines that put you at risk during heat waves. Venture out in the early mornings when its much cooler.
Be quick to stop what you are doing and seek shade and AC when you experience body cramps, confusion, and disorientation.
Parents must mandate breaks for children to play. Don’t leave children and pets in a heated vehicle.
