The city of Greenville recently celebrated the opening of a new natural surface trail at Croftstone Park.
The approximately quarter-mile dirt trail was constructed at the park for hikers and mountain bikers of all ages to enjoy. Croftstone Park is located at 118 Broughton Drive within the greater North Main community.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new trail was held Aug. 13. Greenville City Councilman John DeWorken said the new trail is a small thing that will have a huge impact for years to come.
“What an incredible day for the kids, for the community,” DeWorken said. “This wouldn’t happen without collaboration.”
The city hired Upstate Greenways and Trails Alliance to construct the Croftstone Park trail. The project cost $20,000 to complete. The trail features mountain bike elements such as rollers, bank turns, and skinnies. It also includes a 20-foot bridge and a 30-foot boardwalk.
Calin Owens, the city’s capital projects manager, said the trail weaves within the fabric of Croftstone Park and was designed to be family-friendly.
“We have seen a substantial amount of kids using the trail already, of all ages, all abilities,” Owens said. “It really helps kind of set the stage to help kids begin their mountain bike journey and skill building.”
