Gardening for kids goes into high gear

Everybody loves to see our kids take an interest in something beneficial. Gardening sure qualifies as beneficial.

The earlier kids start gardening, the better it is for them and all others, including mentors, tutors, distributors, and beneficiaries.

The raw streets have engulfed far too many of our youths to their detriment. It is the least we can do to spread the word about gardening for kids.

Toni Brown organized a signal gardening event, invited the kids, prepared the seedbeds, organized the meal, and furnished her house and yard for the special gardening event this past weekend.

Judge for yourselves how well the event went.

Yes, gardening can bring joy to kids, parents, relatives, friends, and neighbors.

Brown holds a degree in agriculture from Clemson and teaches at the Sylvan Learning Center, as well as a teaching degree from Converse College.

She loves helping kids learn gardening skills. That’s why Brown partners with Luther Norman, a longtime agriculturist and practitioner in Spartanburg. Norman has a business decree from NC Greensboro, but decades of gardening and organizational experience.

Let’s not bother ourselves with the costs and logistics of sponsoring these events and thereby miss the outcome for the kids. Think, instead, of the windfall in benefits for the children. Think also of what you can do to promote gardening in your community.

You don’t have to reinvent the wheel.  Partner with others already in the race to help as many kids as possible. If you want to volunteer and want more information about how you can help, send us your questions and concerns to sources@whatsupnews.online
