Why change my eating habits now? I’ve been eating junk food all my life, you say.
Dr. Joel Fuhrman, a board-certified family doctor and leader in nutritional medicine, promises that, when eating right, most of us can prevent a heart attack or a stroke.

Cardiovascular disease kills more individuals than all cancers combined, he said.
For example, you can stop smoking at any point before you develop lung cancer and reduce your chances of contracting cancer. But it’s more complicated to prevent cancer in general for Johnny-come-lately.
Dr. Fuhrman says that nutritional excellence can do what drugs cannot. Drugs can reduce your chances of a heart attack or stroke by 15% or so. Whereas nutritional excellence has the potential to reduce risk 100 times that, he said.
In his provocative 2017 book, Fast Food Genocide: How Processed Food Is Killing Us and What We Can Do About It, Dr. Fuhman argues that a diet high in processed, nutrient-deficient foods acts as a primary cause of chronic illness, comparing the cumulative health impact to a “genocide” on modern populations.
His book also outlines the history of fast food, tracing it through two World Wars and a long history of government partnering with the food industry to add flavor, preservatives, and other additives.
It’s an education to read his book, experiment with his many recipes, and enjoy a surge of energy and better sleep from applying his suggestions, said some readers.
