The Hilton hotel is back in the lights

Motorists have noticed for some time that two letters are missing from the HILTON sign corner of Hayward and W. Orchard Park.

..

Now passersby can relax because the iconic hotel has replaced the missing letters.

It took the crew less than two hours to complete their high-wire act. No one was hurt.

In preparation for the heavy-duty bucket truck to arrive, a hotel engineer scoured the front patio pavement and then replaced the outdoor tables, chairs, and loveseats.

It was exciting when the bucket truck swung into action. Two middle-aged men climbed into the crow’s nest, and an operator lifted them three stories high to replace the missing channel (or lighted) letters, first a capital H and a lowercase i from the front of the building.

Onlookers gazed in wonder as if holding their collective breaths, hoping that the men would be returned to the ground in good health.  In short order, the crew was back on Earth. And all ended well.
