The black barbershop emerged out of necessity during slavery. Since then, it has been a hub of the black community.
After emancipation, the black barbershop became a thriving enterprise.

During the 20th century, the world saw one of the first Black millionaires, Alonzo Herndon, who kickstarted his empire with a single barbershop, and Willie Lee Morrows, a multimillionaire barber who was a pioneer in the Black hair care industry, said the website, the Nationalbarbers.org.
These centers affected many political, social, and cultural changes throughout the ages. The hip-hop genre took shape through networks of barbershops, said the same website at https://nationalbarbers.org/the-history-of-black-barbershops/.
Many popular movies, sports cast venues, and commercials exploit the popularity of the black barbershop.
