The Anderson shooting left a woman dead and other people injured from gunshots during the Juneteenth celebration

A woman was killed and multiple people were injured while attending a Juneteenth celebration in Anderson on June 21.

Anderson County police responded to a report of multiple people shot on Scarborough Road in Anderson around 10 p.m.

Responders arrived to find a chaotic scene with people fleeing the scene and numerous people injured, according to a report.

The victim was pronounced dead on the scene by EMS personnel, according to Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore.

The victim has been identified as Laporshia Janae Gray Cobb, a 35-year-old female from Anderson. The victim died as a result of a gunshot wound to the abdomen, and the case has been ruled a homicide.

The victim was one of many attending a large gathering to celebrate Juneteenth, when an altercation ensued, according to the report.

In all, 10 people were injured due to gunshot wounds.

Two victims were severely injured and were transported to AnMed and Prisma Health.



Seven victims were being treated at AnMed for gunshot wounds to the extremities. Most of the victims arrived at the hospital by private vehicles.

The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, Anderson Police Department, Medshore Ambulance Service, Anderson County Fire Department, South Carolina Highway Patrol, Anderson County EMS, and the Anderson County Office of the Coroner responded to the scene. The investigation is ongoing by the Anderson County Office of the Coroner and the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.
