The President and Chief Executive Officer of the Greenville-Spartanburg Airport was awarded the Order of the Palmetto on November 21.

Dave Edwads was awarded South Carolina’s highest civilian honor for his leadership, a statement said.

The recognition reflects Edwards’ leadership in aviation and his significant contributions to South Carolina.

According to a statement,  GSP has advanced its role in supporting South Carolina’s transportation infrastructure and statewide commerce. GSP generates approximately 4.6 billion dollars in annual economic output, supports more than 24,000 jobs, provides 1.1 billion dollars in labor income, and contributes nearly 88.9 million dollars in state tax revenue each year, said the statement.

Under Edwards’ guidance, the statement said, GSP achieved the highest passenger counts in its history. The airport recently surpassed three million passengers in twelve months for the first time.

Edwards joined GSP in 2009 and will retire on January 9, 2026, after a 38-year career in the aviation industry. His leadership has included significant terminal improvements, cargo and airfield expansion, roadway and parking projects, and long-term strategic planning that positioned GSP for continued success.

Edwards said, “It has been an honor to serve the state of South Carolina and to lead an airport that connects families, supports jobs, and drives economic progress. I am confident that GSP will continue to create value for South Carolina for many years to come.”
