Yokohama's Trelleborg plant in Spartanburg to close, lay off 90 workers

Yokohama TWS North America is closing its Trelleborg plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, resulting in the loss of 90 jobs in April.
The plant, which opened in 2015 and specializes in tires for agricultural equipment, was acquired by Yokohama in 2023 as part of its purchase of Trelleborg Wheel Systems.
Spartanburg County Councilman David Britt stated that plant closures are sometimes part of transitions after acquisitions or reorganizations.
Britt remains optimistic about the job prospects for the displaced workers. Spartanburg County's unemployment rate is 3.9 percent.
Less than three months ago, Yokohama TWS North America was touting the strength of its Trelleborg plant in Spartanburg.
Last week, the tire manufacturer announced the plant’s closing. In April, 90 workers will lose their jobs with the company, according to Yokohama’s government-required Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification.
