Zymir Demarco Smith is no more. The 7-month-old was shot in the neck on August 3 after several unknown suspects fired multiple rounds into an apartment at 314 Collins Avenue in Spartanburg.

The boy died at Spartanburg Medical Center around 5 a.m.
Major Art Littlejohn with the Spartanburg Police Department said investigators are actively working leads.

"We're using all our resources," Littlejohn said. "No one is off the table. As we get information, we'll focus in on individuals and ask 'where were they and who were they involved with.' We are working on a lot of different scenarios to determine who's involved in this."
Littlejohn said the police department currently can't give full details on the identification of persons of interest or a timeline on when warrants will be filed.
Littlejohn said patience and involvement from the community are needed. He said that as information comes in, it helps put together a picture of what happened.
Littlejohn said the Spartanburg Police Department is receiving assistance from different agencies in the investigation.
"We're asking anyone who lives in this area to check their home cameras to see if they have any activity around that time of night. It's important to share any information," Littlejohn said.
The Spartanburg PD is urging anyone with information to contact the Spartanburg Police Department at 864-596-2065. Tips can be submitted anonymously.
The city of Spartanburg held a press conference at the CC Woodson Community Center on August 7 to address gun violence in the area. Different community figures spoke to the media about recent incidents.
