In a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame twist, Chubby Checker has been named a 2025 inductee.
The announcement of the Spring Gully, South Carolina-born singer and dancer making it into the class was made by Ryan Seacrest on the April 27 episode of "American Idol."

Checker ― the voice behind the 1960 global hit "The Twist" ― has long been eligible to be nominated for the Hall.
Since 1986, to be exact.
However, this year was the first time he was nominated as an inductee, and he even made it through on his first ballot.
Checker joins other first-time nominees in the performer category, which includes artists Bad Company, Joe Cocker, Outkast, Cyndi Lauper, and The White Stripes, according to Billboard. Soundgarden was also inducted into the Hall. They had been nominated twice before.
Here's what to know about Checker's most well-known song and when the 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction will go live.
What to know about Checker's hit song 'The Twist'
Checker is best known for his version of Hank Ballard and the Midnighters' 1958 B-side, "The Twist," which he first performed on "American Bandstand" in 1960. He was also the first artist to receive a Grammy Award for Best Rock and Roll Recording, which he earned for his song "Let's Twist Again." He is the only musician to have five albums in the Top 12 at the same time.
"In those days, each album had 12 songs, so that means that Chubby Checker had 60 songs in the top 12 on the album charts all at the same time. No other artist has even come close to this," Checker's website states.
During Checker's popularity, each disc had two sides, each with a song. This makes Checker the only artist ever to have nine double-sided hits at the same time.
'The Twist' was a No. 1 song in 2 different years
In 1960 and 1962, "The Twist" landed at No. 1 on the charts ― the only song to ever hit the No. 1 position in different years.
What other hits is Checker known for?
Other well-known songs from Checker include "Limbo Rock," "The Hucklebuck," "Dancin' Party," "The Class," "The Fly," "Dance The Mess Around," and "Whole Lotta Shakin' Going On."
When will 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction go live?
This year's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction will go live on November 8 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. It will live stream on Disney+ with a special airing on ABC at a later date to be announced. It will also be available on Hulu.
