Many visitors frequent the Greenville Detention Center

According to the South Carolina Department of Corrections, the Greenville County Adult Detention Center has an official rated capacity of 1,277 inmates across its facilities, though the actual daily population fluctuates.

A casual observation on Sunday reveals a parade of young women with one or two children in tow, lining up to visit.

The Detention’s website posts the policies and visitation schedules.

According to the state’s site, there are 16,000 inmates across 21 locations. Most citizens are law-abiding, given the state's population of approximately 5.5 million in 2025.

There is a presumption of innocence until a judge or jury has rendered a decision. And inmates can receive visitors, courtesy of SC law, even if traffic gets brisk at times.
