On July 22, the Greer City Council approved funding for sports complex site work.

Council unanimously approved spending $7.94 million for initial site work for the sports and events center to be built near the intersection of S.C. Highway 14 and South Buncombe Road.
The work will be overseen by Harper General Contractors and will include design engineering, grading, curbing and utility infrastructure work and is expected to begin in early August and last about four months.
The 26-acre, $60 million sports and events complex will contain a roughly 210,000-square-foot main building featuring 8 basketball/volleyball courts and an auxiliary gym, among other amenities.
During discussion of the work, Deputy City Administrator Mike Sell said the contractor intends to install on-site web cameras so interested parties can monitor progress.
The new complex is designed to help meet the recreational needs of the city’s rapidly growing population, particularly for basketball, volleyball and cheer tournament and travel league play.
