Greenville: Rising to New Heights
Architects and builders erected a 10-story, 125-foot observation tower at 70 Mayberry Street in Greenville, SC.
Perhaps they hoped that, as citizens slowly rose to the pinnacle, the elevated view of the cityscape and surrounding areas- yes, all the way to Asheville- would also improve tourists’ view of the city and themselves.
The edifice is named after Thomas and Vivian A. Wong. The site was not left to chance. It was chosen because it once marked a boundary between Black and White.
The tower primarily honors public service members, military veterans, and first responders.
Free admission tickets invite the public to come, take a look, and join the city’s effort to blur the line that divides its citizens.
Symbolism can touch hearts and spark new thought patterns, creating habits that unite neighbors. Nice symbol. Nice thought.
Whether change comes quickly or much later, harmony and togetherness will always be welcome.
The Honor Tower is a monument to the future.
