First Black Clert of Court

Brooks-Creech takes office as Hampton County's first Black and Black female Clerk of Court

After more than two decades of experience working in the law enforcement and court systems, Brooks-Creech was sworn in Jan. 7 as Hampton County’s Clerk of Court after an uncontested election.

Brooks-Creech says this historic moment is a powerful one.

“It’s very powerful, but I’m up for the challenge,” she says. “In my experience over the years, I haven’t run into a challenge that I haven’t been able to overcome – on the job or off the job.”

The Clerk of Court’s Office indeed comes with a lot of ever-evolving modern challenges. Brooks-Creech will oversee a criminal court system that is growing ever-more demanding, with more required paperwork and documentation and growing technological advances, and a civil and family court system that will be transitioning into all-electronic filing methods in the near future.

Brooks-Creech, who has 25 years of experience in Hampton County public service, and 18 in the Clerk of Court’s Office, takes the legal leadership reins from Mylinda Nettles, who retired after 28 years of service as the county Clerk of Court.
