The Greenville Drive lost the baseball game against Bowling Green Saturday night, but won a victory by honoring Black businesses and youth sports teams at a jubilant Fluor Field.

The Greenville Drive partners with many Black business and sports organizations, including the 100 Black Men of the Upstate (100BMOUS), who hosted the annual Jackie Robinson Day during the game.

Before the first pitch made by JC Starks, pitcher for the legendary Sterling High School Baseball Team, its winningest squad ever, the 100BMOUS recognized a gaggle of overachievers, including Joe Long, Issac Dickson, Zachary Johnson, and Leon Wiles.

Fans, supporters, parents, and youths tested the capacity of the Champions Club suite. Photographers flashed their strobes into the ill-lit room as name after name of happy honorees was read off by various organizers.

There was plenty of food, drink, and lively conversation.

The Drive also partners with Luther Norman, who spearheads the Youth Sports Bureau, whose Baseball members were also on hand for the festivities. Norman said there were 2,500 members in the upstate, many of whom were present for the game Saturday, decked out in team T-shirts.
Spartanburg’s Mary Black Hospital is a proud sponsor of the Youth Bureau.
