Spring football has a ring of newness about it. Tuesday, Carolina High School put a new bounce in Spring Football. Some people know it as spring training, the period after the end of the high school year and the beginning of the fall football season.

What high school students won’t welcome outdoor games instead of sitting in class with no lessons to do? That is, until they encounter the sweltering heat of late May. Although the thermostat says it's 85 degrees but try convincing spectators, clustered under shade trees that line the football field, that it’s not so hot.

Blame the humidity, if you must, for the unseasonably blistering heat. A few students, swiping their brows, returned to the air-conditioned building only to be turned away. The door master evokes solicitous tones to persuade frustrated students that they are not allowed in the classroom without a teacher present.

Ever resourceful, students grab a cold bottle of water and reluctantly return to sunbaked bleachers.
