After a 41-year drought, the school announced that it will have a varsity football program in the South Carolina Independent School Athletics (SCISA) conference in the fall of 2026 and a junior varsity team in the fall of 2025.

Patrick Moffitt will serve as the head coach of the football program. Before coming to Spartanburg Day, Moffitt was the football coach at St. Andrews School in Middletown, Delaware, where according to SDS he doubled the program's roster and led the team to its first program appearance in over two decades.
Moffitt led the inaugural middle school team this season, which finished with a 3-3 record. Now, Moffitt is looking forward to the upcoming additions to its football program.
“It was exciting to watch the growth and development of every one of the football players in the program this past fall," Moffitt said in a news release. "Their hunger to learn and compete is what made this past season a success. I can’t wait to continue to build with them every step of the way as we continue to grow.”
