SC health officials declare measles outbreak over

On April 27, South Carolina health officials said the major measles outbreak is over. The six-month outbreak caused 997 cases, mostly among unvaccinated school children, officials said.
While the immediate crisis has passed, officials maintain vigilance for new, isolated cases in the area.
The outbreak began in October 2025 and ended April 27, 2026, after 42 days passed without a new related case, officials said.
During the outbreak, more than 870 students were quarantined.
The South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH) strongly recommends vaccination, as 94% of cases were among unvaccinated individuals.
