Powdersville Pass Christ Church to HS Basketball Final

Jaleel McGee made the go-ahead basket and two steals in the final minute as Powdersville beat Christ Church, 58-57, Friday in the Class AAA high school boys basketball Upper State final in Florence.

Defending state champion Powdersville will have a chance to go back-to-back when it faces Keenan at 8 p.m. Thursday as the SCHSL playoffs continue at The Florence Center. Keenan was a 42-39 winner against Loris in the Lower State.
McGee hit a pull-up jumper with 50 seconds left to give Powdersville a 56-54 lead. He stole away Christ Church’s next two possessions and made two free throws for a 58-54 win. lead with two ticks left.
Jonathan Perry of Christ Church made a half-court 3-pointer at the buzzer.

McGee finished with 13 points and Von Burton led Powdersville with 19. Perry had 17 and Anthony Atkins had 12 points for Christ Church.
Last season, Powdersville (21-9) won its first state championship in program history. Christ Church (20-6) is the defending champion in Class A and came in with three titles in four years, including in Class AA.
