The airplane lost power and crashed April 17 in a grassy area along Woods Lake Road just after takeoff from the Greenville Downtown Airport, according to Robert Hoover, public relations director. The pilot, who was the only person in the aircraft, survived with injuries but was transferred to a hospital in Greenville. He was not identified.
The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate a crash of a small single-engine plane in Greenville at about 3:37 p.m.
Greenville police and firefighters responded to the area, which is also near Interstate 385.
