Lady Gamecocks hire Wendale Farrow Southern Cal as assistant Coach
COLUMBIA — Wendale Farrow will join coach Dawn Staley's staff as an assistant coach for South Carolina women's basketball, the program announced on April 18.
Farrow replaces Winston Gandy, who was announced as the coach at Grand Canyon on March 24. Gandy finished the season with the Gamecocks, which ended April 6 with a loss to UConn in the national championship.

Farrow, 37, comes to South Carolina from the other USC, as he spent the past four years as an assistant at Southern Cal.
“We struck gold in bringing Wendale into our Gamecock family,” Staley said in the hiring announcement. “He is an accomplished young coach who has been part of every aspect of successful programs, and that journey has made him a seasoned, complete coach from Xs and Os to player development to recruiting to community service. We’re excited to see the huge impact he will make on our team and Columbia.”
Farrow has 10 years of coaching experience in the SEC, Big Ten and Pac-12 which includes six NCAA Tournament appearances, two Elite Eights, a Big Ten regular-season championship, a Pac-12 Tournament title.
He's coached eight WNBA Draft picks, including this past season at Southern Cal with Kiki Iriafen who was selected in the first round on April 14. Farrow was on coach Lindsay Gottlieb's staff at Cal before she took the job with the Trojans.
Farrow's first assistant coaching experience in the SEC was with Vanderbilt under Melanie Balcomb for the 2015-16 season.
Shortly after the hire was announced, Staley took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to encourage South Carolina fans to welcome Farrow to Columbia.
"Birdies come in all sizes!!," Staley wrote, a nod to how she posts "a birdie flew into the nest" for all player recruits. "Welcome @DellyWEN to the Gamecock family!!! We can’t wait to get started with you! @GamecockWBBFAMs activate and give our guy some love!!!"
There were no details on when Farrow would be in Columbia, but Gandy has been at GCU since the conclusion of the season. According to a social media post by the program on April 17, the team is still in Columbia holding practices and training sessions.
