HS Outstanding Basketball Players for the Year

Here are the All-Upstate high school boys basketball teams and our pick for player of the year for the 2024-25 season.

Player of the year

Abijah Franklin

Wren | Forward | Senior

Why chosen: Franklin led the state in scoring with 31.4 points per game and also averaged 7.7 rebounds and 2.9 steals. He helped Wren to a 25-5 record, 9-1 in Region 1-AAAA, and a berth in the Upper State championship game. Franklin, a 6-foot-5 Furman signee, finished his high school career with a game-high 24 points in the Carolinas Classic all-star event featuring the best seniors from South Carolina against North Carolina.

First team

Amare Anderson

Greer | Guard | Senior

Why chosen: Anderson averaged 19.5 points and 5.3 rebounds as Greer went 12-0 in Region 2-AAAA, 21-8 overall. In a late-season win against Daniel, the 6-1 point guard scored 38 points. He had 30 points in a playoff win as the Yellow Jackets reached the Upper State semifinals. The Presbyterian signee finished with 1,700 career points and was named MVP of the Carolinas Classic.


Sebi Boyogueno

Riverside | Forward | Junior

Why chosen: Boyogueno averaged 18.7 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.1 steals in helping Riverside (20-8, 11-3 Region 2-AAAAA) reach the Upper State championship game. Late in the season, he had 27 points in a win against Byrnes and 30 in a win against Dorman. The 6-4 Boyogueno scored 24 points in the Junior Showcase and was named MVP of that postseason all-star game.




Caden Coleman

Greenville | Guard | Junior

Why chosen: Coleman helped lead Greenville to the Class AAAAA Division 2 state championship, the program’s first since 2006, and scored 21 points in the title game. For the season, the 6-3 Coleman averaged 13.3 points with 3.8 assists. He took control of the Upper State championship against Riverside in the second half and scored 15 points. Coleman surpassed the 1,000-point mark for his career.

Colt Fowler

Byrnes | Guard | Sophomore

Why chosen: Fowler led his team in scoring with 18.2 points per game and led the state with 11.2 assists per game, fourth-best average in the country, according to MaxPreps. The 5-9 point guard also averaged 5.0 rebounds, third best on the team. Four times Fowler had at least 30 points and 10 assists. Byrnes went 24-4, including 11-3 in Region 2-AAAAA.
