GVL Police starts Citizens' Academy on May 1

Greenville, SC — The Greenville Police Department will begin accepting applications for its 2026 Citizens Academy on May 1st, an interactive program that gives community members an inside look at the department’s operations and daily responsibilities.

The Citizens Academy will run from August 11 through October 6, with sessions held every Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Participants will gain valuable insight into various aspects of law enforcement through hands-on experiences and presentations led by the Greenville Police Department personnel.


Topics covered during the academy include police department structure and operations, criminal investigations, use of force, vice and narcotics, media relations, traffic stops,´ communications, and the opportunity to participate in a police training simulator.


To be eligible, applicants must be at least 21 years of age, live and/or work within the City of Greenville, and commit to attending at least seven of the eight scheduled sessions.


The Citizens’ Academy is designed to strengthen relationships between law enforcement and

the community by fostering transparency, education, and engagement.
