Furman's Osher registration is open and promotes lifelong learning

Fall registration for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Furman University opens Aug. 14.

The institute provides volunteer-led courses for senior adults in Upstate South Carolina. More than 130 classes will be offered for the fall semester, such as culinary arts, woodcarving, pickleball, foreign languages, history, politics, and more.

A list of courses and a link to the registration site can be found at furman.edu/osher-lifelong-learning-institute.

Nancy Kennedy, director of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, said the institute enriches the lives of senior adults and retirees in the Greenville area. More than 2,500 senior adults are members of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.

“I can’t count the number of times I’ve heard members say OLLI at Furman is one of the reasons they relocated here,” Kennedy said. “They are enthusiastic, engaged lifelong learners. Many take multiple classes each semester. It’s something they do for themselves.”

Membership is required to register for classes with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. Annual memberships cost $65. Individual courses range from $35 to $50.

Classes begin on Sept. 8. Courses run between three to nine weeks, meeting roughly for 90 minutes once a week. Courses are offered in person on Furman’s campus or at Rolling Green Village in Greenville. There are also Zoom class offerings.
