Fatal motorcycle accident on Nov. 15 on I-85, police report

Greenville, S.C. — On November 15 at 2:47 p.m., Greenville Police Department officers responded to a report of a collision with injuries at 385 North and Pleasantburg Drive.

According to witnesses, a pickup truck struck a motorcycle carrying two occupants. The male driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead on the scene. A female passenger was transported to Prisma Health with severe injuries.

Police officer Diana Munoz said in a statement that, through further investigation, officers determined the driver of the pickup truck to be impaired. The driver, identified as Andrew McDowell, 22, was arrested and charged with Felony DUI Resulting in Death, Felony DUI Resulting in Great Bodily Injury, and Possession of Cocaine, First Offense.

McDowell remains in custody at the Greenville County Detention Center as of November 17.
