A hazardous materials spill had two lanes of Interstate 85 southbound closed at Exit 68 near Wellford, according to a South Carolina Department of Transportation website.

Sometime before 9 am, a live video feed showed that crews were on the scene of the spill.
At 10:52, an SCDOT traffic camera showed traffic moving at a normal rate in the northbound lane, but there were emergency response vehicles on the scene in the southbound lane, and motorists were making their way through the site of the incident slowly.
According to Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway, with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the incident occurred when a tractor trailer struck an object in the roadway. The debris punctured the truck’s fuel tank.
The driver moved to the side of the highway, and authorities closed the two right lanes to deal with the spill.
Ridgeway said the interstate will need to be repaired because of the corrosive effects of the fuel.
